Net Metering
IREA has a net-metering policy available to customers who own or operate a qualifying net-metering system.
Customer-owned generation systems are eligible for net metering under the policy if they use solar, wind, biomass, new hydropower, recycled energy, or hydrogen fuel cells and have a generating capacity of not greater than 10 kW for residential customer generators or 25 kW for commercial and industrial customer-generators. Compliance with certain interconnection and insurance standards is required. Under the policy, energy generated by the customer is directly offset on a one-for-one basis against energy provided by the Association. Credit for any excess generation is carried forward and offset against use in subsequent months. Within sixty days after the end of each calendar year, the customer generator is paid for any year-end credit balance at a rate equal to the Association’s average wholesale cost of power for that calendar year.
The existing residential rate will remain in effect and unchanged for net metering customers. Energy consumption in excess of customer generation will be billed at the current residential rate charge. Please note that any existing monthly minimum charge will continue to apply even in those instances where customer generation exceeds monthly usage, and no energy is furnished by the Association. |
