Voluntary Programs
Both voluntary programs listed below can be contributed to directly through your IREA bill. IREA will add a separate line item on your monthly billing statement and transmit the funds accordingly. Consumers wishing to sign up for both programs may do so. Consumers wishing to be dropped from either program must notify IREA in writing. If an account becomes past due, participation in these voluntary programs will automatically be terminated.
Energy Outreach Colorado
If you would like to help IREA members stay warm, safe and healthy in their homes this winter, you can contribute directly through your IREA bill. IREA will transmit your chosen donation amounts to Energy Outreach Colorado, the only not-for-profit organization in Colorado that raises funds for energy assistance. To sign up, click here. (Please refer to the top paragraph for a short summary of voluntary program terms and conditions).
IREA is a long-time contributor to Energy Outreach Colorado and will match contributions up to $75,000 per year.
Renewable Energy Credits (REC) Program
To accommodate those individuals who wish to support renewable energy sources, the Board has developed the Renewable Energy Credits Program. The purchase of renewable energy credits (RECs) will allow consumers to support renewable generating facilities. In an effort to make purchases more convenient and affordable for IREA consumers, the Association purchased RECs at a discounted rate. Those savings will be passed along to consumers wishing to purchase RECs.
Non-solar RECs will be purchased from Xcel Energy's renewable generating facilities, most of which are located here in Colorado. These non-solar RECs are composed of 91% wind. The remaining 9% will be a mixture of biomass and hydro. Non-solar RECs will be priced at 1 cent per kWh. National solar RECs are purchased from Sterling Planet and come from various renewable generating facilities throughout the United States. Our 2008 national solar REC prices will remain the same as in 2007 at 5.5 cents per kWh.
